in 1997 King Juan Carlos of Spain opened the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. This amazing and futuristic gallery was designed by American/Canadian architect Frank Gehry and is one of the most stunning buildings of the last decade of the 20th century.
Whilst the exhibitions rotate and there are always special exhibitions, the gallery focuses on contemporary artists, particularly those of Spanish and Basque origin. The gallery has also acquired works by de Koonig, Rothko and Still whilst continuing to display other works from the other Guggenheim Galleries.
